Cinco de Mayo – Fiesta in Las Vegas

Cinco de Mayo —a day celebrating the Mexican army’s triumph over French forces led by Napoleon III in 1862. It’s now turned into a weekend-long fiesta involving the act of binging on tacos and margaritas at large parades, festivals, and parties. Las Vegas does Cinco de Mayo a little differently. Yes, the Mexican food, tequila, and beer are always a present aspect of this holiday, but in true Vegas style, this city tends to celebrate this party just a bit harder. Here are a few ways you can celebrate Cinco de Mayo in Las Vegas.

Downtown Las Vegas

Las Vegas

There are many events hosted Downtown throughout the year that is catered to Las Vegas millennials and urbanites. The vibe Downtown is much different than on the Strip. It’s more relaxed and informal, and you avoid the touristy crowds (and high prices), which makes it the go-to for locals. Here are a couple Downtown fiestas you can’t miss this weekend.

Get your amigos and start your day drinking at the Cinco de Mayo Fremont Street Bar Crawl. This all-day bar crawl is hosted by Fremont Street Bar Crawl and takes you to the best Downtown bars offering handcrafted cocktails and drink specials for an epic experience. This crawl starts and 12 pm and ends at 11 pm. You and your friends enjoy a self-guided tour hopping from each bar on the map provided at check-in. Participating venues include Gold Spike (a local favorite), Oak & Ivy (a whiskey bar offering some of the best-handcrafted whiskey cocktails in town), Corduroy and more!

If bar-hopping doesn’t appeal to you, then Downtown Container Park is your go-to place for an all-in-one fiesta. Their Cinco de Mayo Beer Festival called Dia de la Cerveza features beer, live music, food and shopping specials from 5 pm to 8 pm. Guests enjoy all-you-can-drink cerveza on the lawn and bar specials. Oak & Ivy is offering a $6 Tequila shot bar for those who want more buzz for their buck. Whether you choose to explore Fremont Street or stay inside Downtown Container Park for an all-inclusive experience, Downtown Las Vegas offers fun and budget-friendly options for those who want to party this weekend.

Cinco de Mayo Weekend at Silverton Casino

It’s a weekend fiesta at Silverton Casino! Kick off the weekend with Metalachi, the world’s first and only band that fuses heavy metal rock and mariachi to create a sonic fiesta. Bloq Party at Linq Promenade

Cinco de Mayo Bloq Party

Chayo Mexican Kitchen & Tequila Bar is hosting a Cinco de Mayo Bloq Party at the Linq Promenade. This is not your ordinary block party—it features live bands, mariachi, DJ’s, street food, drink carts, AND chihuahuas. Yes, you read that right. You can cuddle sweet little chihuahuas while enjoying the party. These Chihuahuas are available for adoption through Hearts Alive Village, a local animal rescue dedicated to securing forever homes for dogs and cats. Fun Spring Date Ideas in Las Vegas

Spring is here and love is in the air. It’s a season of new beginnings as flowers bloom and the desert sun glows in the balmy palm tree breeze. Whether you’ve got yourself a new flame or you’re in a long-term relationship, there’s never a shortage of fun venues in Las Vegas that every couple can enjoy. Here are a few spring date ideas.

Brunch at Downtown Container Park

Container Park

Container Park is a unique fixture in Downtown Las Vegas. Built out of recycled shipping containers, the whole shopping center reflects the innovative and urban vibe of Downtown Las Vegas. Container Park has plenty of dining, entertainment, bars and two children’s play areas. It’s a playground for all ages which makes it a perfect date destination.

Brunch at Downtown Terrace for a unique gourmet experience dining inside a shipping container. Their light farm-fresh dishes and fruity cocktails set the perfect ambiance for a great brunch date. If you’re feeling bottomless rosé and some of the best finger sandwiches and charcuterie in town, hit up BIN 702. This little gem is housed in one of the smaller containers at Container Park, but it never feels claustrophobic. The bartenders make you feel right at home and even offer to play board games with their guests.

Looking to grab a quick happy hour drink with your date? Drop by Oak & Ivy for some of the best craft whiskey cocktails and unique handcrafted drinks. They feature a selection of barrel-aged cocktails and spirits with rare beers on tap. Also housed in a cozy shipping container, Oak & Ivy makes you feel as if you’re transported to an old-school whiskey bar with the rich tones of their decor and a welcoming bartender costumed in a newsboy cap. There’s no doubt that Container Park is a great date option for Las Vegas urbanites.

Bellagio Botanical Garden and Fountain

Bellagio Botanical Garden

Take a stroll inside Bellagio’s Conservatory & Botanical Garden for a breathtaking and unique display of flowers. This flower exhibit changes every season and on special featured holidays. You and your date will be mesmerized by the current floral presentation — Japanese Spring. This new spring theme features a female character in a pool of water holding a 12′-diameter sculpted pearl. The character reaches 26′ in height and towers over the rest of the botanical garden. Take some time to stand under the tall Shinto shrine Torii gates surrounded by cherry blossoms and marvel at the sheer beauty of this spring exhibit. This garden provides a romantic backdrop for memories that will last a lifetime, not forgetting to mention that every corner of this exhibit is worthy of a Kodak moment.

Now that the weather is heating up, it’s the perfect opportunity to walk out onto the fountain and watch a classic (and free) Las Vegas Strip attraction, the Bellagio Fountains. You and your date will be fascinated by this dazzling show of music, light, and water. Shows run every 15 minutes from 8 pm to midnight, which is the optimal time to watch this spectacularly choreographed water show.

Coffee Date at the Aquarium at Silverton Casino

Sometimes it’s best to keep it simple. A coffee date can do no wrong, but you can definitely spice it up with a trip to an Aquarium, gelato and relaxing by bonfire pits at sunset. Drop by Silverton Casino’s Starbucks and have a seat in our comfortable lounge area by the fountain. Later on, you can take a short walk over to the Aquarium to watch our mermaids swim or take part in the daily interactive stingray feedings. Our 117,000-gallon reef Aquarium is home to thousands of tropical fish and mermaids—a sight you and your date will surely enjoy.

Don’t let the sweetness stop there! After viewing the Aquarium, drop by Sundance Grill’s Gelato Bar and grab yourself a scoop or two and head out to The Green in front of the main entrance to relax next to our bonfire pits or take the opportunity to picnic on the open lawn. A nice spring breeze, a warm bonfire and relaxing on colorful Adirondack chairs is the perfect end to a splendid date.

Game Night at Dave & Buster’s

Dave & Busters

Be a kid again at Dave & Buster’s! You and your date will surely enjoy this arcade and sports bar in Downtown Summerlin. With weekday and happy hour specials, as well as game card discounts, you’ll definitely get more fun per dollar. Grab a drink, a bite to eat and watch some sports before heading out to the games and crushing it at the arcade.

You can spend countless hours getting lost in old arcade classics like the coin pusher or battling it out at Mario Kart. Test your shot at skee-ball or basketball and slide over to the air hockey machine. Let’s not forget the most important arcade staple of all; have your date win you a stuffed toy from the claw machine. It doesn’t matter how many points you waste on the claw, you can’t leave without a prize from that machine! You and your date will enjoy an exciting night full of laughter and amusement.

And there you have it—fun date ideas to try this spring!

Behind the Veil: Roger Clyne & The Peacemakers

Roger Clyne & The Peacemakers are headed to Veil Pavilion, but before they take the stage on Tuesday, May 1st we’re going to take a look Behind the Veil of the Arizona born singer so you’ll be that friend 100 percent in the know before the doors even open.

Born and raised in Tucson, Arizona and growing up in Tempe, Arizona, Clyne immersed himself in the southwestern, desert culture. He and his family took frequent trips to Mexico in his youth which is what influenced his music. While attending college at Arizona State University, Clyne played in several bands during the height of the Tempe music scene of the late 90’s. The two previous bands that he played with were The Refreshments and the Mortals. The Refreshments were best known for the single “Banditos” from their 1996 breakthrough album Fizzy Fuzzy Big & Buzzy. This alternative rock band opened for the Gin Blossoms and Dead Hot Workshop before headling and packing venues five nights a week.

Roger Clyne

His love of a beach town on the Sea of Cortez in Sonora, Mexico called Puerto Peñasco (Rocky Point) came through when he decided to have his band play there for a concert in 2000. What started as a one night, one band concert there, grew into what is now a 4-day annual music festival named, Circus Mexicus. The event brings over 5,000 people and two events, the Hot Dog & a Smile and the Rock & Beach Soccer tournament both raise money for charities based in Rocky Point.

Hear something familiar when you’re watching one of your favorite King of the Hill episodes? Clyne penned the theme song for the animated television series. He also wrote and recorded the victory song for his hometown Major League Baseball club, the Arizona Diamondbacks, entitled The D-Backs Swing.

With Cinco de Mayo right around the corner, we need to try his own brand of ultra-premium tequila, named Roger Clyne’s Mexican Moonshine Tequila. Let’s all take a trip to Puerto Peñasco and check out his bar, Banditos.

Or just head over to Mi Casa Grill Cantina before the show on May 1st, after-all it is Taco Tuesday!

Want to win tickets? Click here to win (2) tickets to see Roger Clyne & The Peacemakers and dinner for 2 to Mi Casa Grill Cantina.

Best Places For New Year’s Eve Off The Strip

Are you ready for the New Year? Well, hang on because we only have a few more days until 2018! If you’re looking to ring in 2018 right, there is no better way than to Skip the Strip! Las Vegas is undoubtedly a destination for New Year’s Eve festivities, but here are a few reasons your best bet isn’t on the 4 mile stretch of the Strip.

1. Best Place to Watch the Fireworks
While one of the best fireworks displays in the country is right here in Las Vegas, sometimes it’s better to watch all the fireworks on the Strip from afar. Find an elevated parking garage and enjoy the view from the top floor. Make sure to dress warm because the fireworks show will last from 8 to 10 minutes.

NYE Fireworks

2. Best Place to Kick Start Your New Year’s Resolutions
Before the New Year’s parties, food and champagne, kick start your New Year’s goals with a 10K/5K/1M Resolution Run at Kellogg-Zaher Park. This is a great race for walkers and runners alike, and strollers are welcome. The race begins at 4 p.m. so there’s plenty of time afterward to get ready for the rest of your evening festivities. Finishers will get a shirt and a finishers award.

3. Best Place to See a New Year’s Eve Show
There is no shortage of high caliber entertainment in Las Vegas on New Year’s Eve, but this year The Smith Center brings renowned Emmy and Tony winning actress and singer Kristin Chenoweth to the stage. An electrifying, high-energy performance featuring Chenoweth’s powerhouse vocals backed by the extraordinary talent of her five-piece band, this special evening will showcase the stage and screen star’s wide-ranging repertoire and dazzling personality.

4. Best Place to Celebrate Early with the Family
Celebrate Noon Year’s Eve at Town Square Las Vegas from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. Festivities will include an inflatable slide and rock wall, bounce houses, face painting and balloon artists. A DJ from 98.5 KLUC will mix the music for a dance party as everyone counts down to noon. At noon, ring in the New Year with a flavorful juice box toast and balloon drop.

5. Best Place to Try Something New
Ring in the 2018 New Year with BLACKOUT “Dining in the Dark.” Enjoy a complete sensory experience while you enjoy your entire meal in a pitch black dining room. For guests that are dining when the clock strikes midnight, they will be able to join in on a very special BLACKOUT countdown.

But, if you are looking for a place for the locals, Silverton Casino is your off-Strip NYE party headquarters.

Parking has undeniably become a nightmare for those who aren’t used to paying to park, even locals have reached the limit on their grace period, and everyone will have to fork out for putting it in park anywhere near most properties. Silverton Casino always has free parking and valet available, as well as a Lyft Lounge for those waiting for their ride.

Hefty Prices
It’s no surprise that the Strip comes with a hefty price tag. So, we’re celebrating from 7 p.m. – 10 p.m. with bottomless beverages for only $25 when you buy your Skip the Strip tickets in advance, plus $5 off a New Year’s Eve specialty buffet dinner at Seasons with your Skip the Strip ticket beginning at 9 p.m.

Behind the Veil: Eddie Money

Eddie Money is headed to Veil Pavilion, but before he takes the stage on Saturday, September 30th we’re going to take a look Behind the Veil of the Brooklyn born singer so you’ll be that friend 100 percent in the know before the doors even open and you’re handing over your two tickets to paradise.

Talk about backing the badge, Eddie Money, born Edward Joseph Mahoney actually served as a New York City Police Officer for two years before placing his career on hold in 1968 to pursue music. I think it’s safe to assume that he made the right choice, and that hold became indefinite.

Eddie Money

Money has opened the summer concert season at the most attended amphitheater in the country, DTE Energy Music Theatre in Michigan, for nearly two decades making him the true sound of the season for the concert goers in Michigan and around the world.

Jesse Money, Eddie’s daughter, keeps it in the family taking after her father, joining him on tour singing backup vocals. Jesse is Eddie’s only daughter, he also has four sons, Zachary, Joseph, Desmond and Julian.

Hear something familiar when you’re playing one of your favorite video games? You can hear some of Money’s music in hit video games Guitar Hero and Grand Theft Auto.

Don’t adjust your television! Money has made appearances on “King of Queens” and even played Mimi’s ex-husband on the on “The Drew Carey Show”.

Most importantly, Eddie Money will be performing all of his hits in a just a few short weeks.

Eddie Money

What is your favorite Eddie Money song to sing along to?
