Mocktail Magic: The Berry Basil Smash

Who says a sophisticated drink requires alcohol? The Berry Basil Smash is a vibrant, refreshing mocktail that combines the sweetness of berries with the aromatic hint of basil. It’s perfect for any occasion, whether you’re entertaining guests or indulging in a quiet night at home.

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup fresh mixed berries (strawberries, raspberries, blueberries)
  • 4-5 fresh basil leaves
  • 1 tablespoon honey or agave nectar
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • Ice cubes
  • Sparkling water or club soda
  • Optional garnish: Extra berries and basil sprig

Instructions:

  1. Muddle the Magic: In a sturdy glass or cocktail shaker, combine the fresh berries, basil leaves, honey (or agave nectar), and lemon juice. Use a muddler or the back of a spoon to gently mash the ingredients until the berries release their juices and the basil is fragrant.
  2. Ice, Ice, Baby: Add a handful of ice cubes to the mixture.
  3. Shake It Up: If using a cocktail shaker, secure the lid and shake well for about 10 seconds. If mixing in a glass, stir thoroughly until well combined.
  4. Pour and Top: Strain the mixture into a serving glass filled with ice. Top off with sparkling water or club soda, stirring gently to combine.
  5. Garnish and Enjoy: Add extra berries and a sprig of basil on top for a fancy touch. Sip and savor the refreshing flavors!

Tips to Elevate Your Mocktail Experience

  • Glass Matters: Serve your mocktail in a stylish glass to enhance the experience.
  • Get Creative: Swap basil with mint or try different fruit combinations like mango and cilantro.
  • Sugar Rim: Dip the rim of your glass in lemon juice and then in sugar for an extra sweet twist.

Cheers to New Beginnings!

Dry January isn’t just about cutting something out; it’s about discovering new joys and flavors that enrich your life. So raise your Berry Basil Smash high and toast to a month of health, happiness, and delicious adventures ahead.

Happy Sipping!

New Year’s Plans?

New Year's Eve

What Are You Doing New Year’s Eve?

Ah, New Year’s Eve. The night we bid farewell to the chaos of the past 365 days and cross our fingers that next year will be slightly less… chaotic. Some people might hit the Strip for an epic countdown, but hey, let’s be honest—it’s crowded, it’s loud, and you’ll probably end up paying $40 for a bottle of water. Yikes.

So, if you’re like us and want to “Skip the Strip” for a night of epic fun without the hassle, here’s a list of oddball things you could be doing on New Year’s Eve—OR make the smarter choice and join us at Silverton Casino for the annual Skip the Strip party. Trust us, it’ll be the best decision you make all year.

Oddball Ways to Spend New Year’s Eve (But Really, Don’t)

  1. Organize Your Sock Drawer
This is your year to find the elusive matching sock, right? Wrong. You’ll just end up with more solo socks and existential dread about how you got here.
  2. Rewatch All 3 Seasons of That Show You’ve Already Seen… Twice
Because nothing says “ringing in the New Year” like realizing you could’ve just gone to a party instead of watching TV with a bottle of wine and your cat.
  3. Host a Zoom Call with Relatives You’ve Been Avoiding
What better way to count down to midnight than explaining to Aunt Linda for the 47th time how to unmute herself?
  4. Try to Break a World Record for Most Unnecessary Resolutions
“I will eat only beige foods for 2025” or “I resolve to finally learn French… but only through watching subtitled French reality TV.” You get the picture.
  5. Attempt to Make a Charcuterie Board and Fail Spectacularly
Nothing screams ‘celebration’ like throwing cheddar cubes and crackers on a plate and calling it “art.”
  6. Dance Alone to Last Year’s Spotify Playlist
Because nothing gets the party started like realizing your top song of 2024 was somehow still from 2010. (We see you, Black Eyed Peas.)

Or You Could Skip All That…

And join us at Silverton Casino for the legendary Skip the Strip New Year’s Eve Party! No sock-sorting, no awkward Zooms, just pure, unadulterated fun with a crowd of cool people who also know the Strip is overrated.

  • Live music to keep you grooving all night long.
  • Drinks that won’t cost more than your rent.
  • Special food that’ll have you questioning why you ever considered staying in.
  • Dance Party? Oh yeah, we’ve got that covered too—but from the comfort of your cozy Silverton bubble, without the tourist stampede.

So, what’s it going to be this New Year’s Eve? Hunting for socks… or joining the best party in Vegas without the Strip hassle? We think the choice is clear.

See you at Silverton—let’s Skip the Strip and start 2025 with a bang!

Your Guide to NFR Fashion

What to Wear to the National Finals Rodeo (NFR) in Las Vegas

NFR FashionsThe National Finals Rodeo (NFR) in Las Vegas is more than just a competition; it’s a celebration of Western heritage, cowboy culture, and a chance to showcase your best rodeo fashion. Whether you’re a first-timer or a seasoned NFR attendee, knowing what to wear is key to fitting in with the crowd and feeling comfortable while you enjoy the action. Here’s your guide to rodeo-ready fashion for NFR in Las Vegas.

1. Start with the Boots

Nothing says “rodeo” like a good pair of cowboy boots. This is the time to break out your most stylish and comfortable pair. If you’re going for authenticity, choose boots with intricate stitching or exotic leather. Remember, comfort is crucial since you’ll be on your feet, walking around the grounds and cheering in the stands.

2. Denim is a Must

Jeans are the cornerstone of any rodeo outfit. Classic blue denim is a safe bet, but you can also opt for black or colored jeans for a more modern look. Look for jeans with a bit of stretch to keep you comfortable throughout the day. For those looking to add a little flair, consider jeans with embellishments like embroidery or rhinestones.

3. Western Shirt or Blouse

A Western shirt is a NFR staple. Go for something with snap buttons, embroidery, or plaid to stay true to the rodeo vibe. For women, a fitted blouse with Western details like fringe or lace can add a feminine touch. Don’t be afraid to play with colors and patterns—this is your chance to stand out in the crowd.

4. Add a Statement Belt

A big, bold belt buckle is almost as essential as the boots. Whether it’s a trophy buckle or just something flashy, it’s a key piece that ties your whole outfit together. Choose a belt that complements your boots and jeans, but don’t be afraid to go big—the more eye-catching, the better.

5. Top it Off with a Cowboy Hat

No rodeo outfit is complete without a cowboy hat. Stick to classic colors like black, brown, or tan. Felt hats are traditional for cooler weather, while straw hats work well for warmer days. Make sure your hat fits well and sits comfortably on your head—you’ll want to keep it on for the duration of the event.

6. Layer with a Jacket or Vest

Las Vegas in December can get chilly, especially at night. A denim jacket, leather jacket, or Western vest can add an extra layer of warmth without sacrificing style. Fringe jackets are particularly popular at rodeos and add a fun, retro flair to your look.

7. Accessorize Wisely

Bandanas, bolo ties, and turquoise jewelry are all great ways to accessorize your NFR outfit. Keep in mind that less is often more—choose a couple of statement pieces rather than overloading on accessories. A well-placed bandana or a set of turquoise earrings can elevate your look without overwhelming it.

8. Comfort is Key

While style is important, comfort should never be sacrificed. NFR is an all-day event, and you’ll want to be able to move, sit, and stand comfortably. Make sure your boots are broken in, your hat fits just right, and your layers are easy to take on and off as the temperature changes.

9. Consider the Venue

Remember, you’re not just dressing for the rodeo arena; Las Vegas is known for its nightlife and glitz. If you’re planning to hit the town after the rodeo, consider a more glamorous Western look that can transition from day to night—think rhinestones, sequins, and maybe even a touch of glitter.

10. Don’t Forget Your Personal Style

Finally, make sure your NFR outfit reflects your personality. Whether you’re going for classic cowboy, modern Western chic, or something in between, the most important thing is that you feel confident and comfortable in what you’re wearing.

So, saddle up and get ready for the NFR in Las Vegas! With these tips, you’ll be dressed to impress and ready to enjoy all the excitement the rodeo has to offer. Yeehaw!

We’re Thankful!

Thanksgiving at Silverton

What We’re Thankful for This Thanksgiving

As Thanksgiving approaches, we at Silverton Casino Lodge want to take a moment to reflect on the things we’re truly grateful for. After all, it’s been quite the year—from big wins on the casino floor to delicious new dishes in our restaurants—and we’ve got a lot to be thankful for. So, grab a slice of pumpkin pie (or a cocktail from BAD ELF Pop-Up Bar), sit back, and enjoy this list of all the things that make us feel thankful this year!

1. Our Fancy Hotel Remodel

We’re extremely thankful for Silverton’s hotel remodel, because nothing says “treat yourself” like upgrading from a room that used to give off “budget trip” vibes to one that screams “I’m on vacation, and I deserve it!” Now, guests can bask in themed luxury while enjoying beds so comfy they practically tuck you in, and bathrooms where the towels don’t judge you when you consider stealing them. The remodel also brought in stylish decor that’ll have you Instagramming your stay like you’re at a five-star resort—without mentioning that you accidentally fell asleep by the pool and missed dinner.

2. The Swimmin’ Hole Pool Deck

Speaking of the pool, let’s be real — nothing screams “thankful” like lounging by a $10 million resort pool, sipping on a cold drink, and pretending calories don’t exist while you order another round of poolside nachos. Our new pool deck has it all: cabanas, daybeds, fire pits, and a bar that understands your love for both beer and cocktails. We’re thankful for sunny days (that will return again soon!) and good times at The Swimmin’ Hole.

3. Mermaids

No, not a metaphor. Actual mermaids. These graceful, shimmering creatures in our massive 117,000-gallon aquarium make everyone’s day a little more magical. Whether they’re flipping their tails or waving to guests, we are thankful for their aquatic charm—and, let’s be honest, for the fact that we don’t have to feed them turkey and stuffing.

4. Craps—All the Ways to Roll

Here at Silverton, we like to keep our dice game fresh. Whether you’re into electronic craps, Roll to Win, or just good ol’ fashioned regular craps, we’ve got you covered. We’re thankful for the excitement that a good roll of the dice brings—and even more thankful when that roll isn’t a seven. (We still love you, though, Seven.)

5. Twin Creeks’ Tomahawk Steak

It’s not Thanksgiving without a feast, and this year, we’re especially thankful for our friends at Twin Creeks Steakhouse who continue to serve up their legendary Creekstone Farms Tomahawk Steak. It’s huge. It’s juicy. It’s the kind of steak that makes you thankful that stretchy pants are socially acceptable after 6 p.m.

6. Shady Grove’s Cookie Butter Martini

Cider Fest may be over, but we sure miss the cocktails.  From cozy apple flavors to that irresistible Carmel Apple Cider Martini, we’re still raising a glass (or two) to all things appley. But don’t worry — the cocktails are still flowing at Shady Grove! We’re thankful that our BAD ELF bar staff has mastered the art of garnishing with precision, making every drink look like it’s straight out of a Pinterest board. And that Cookie Butter Martini?  Perfection!

7. Our Amazing Guests

Of course, we’re thankful for you, our fabulous guests, who keep coming back for more fun, food, and good times. Whether you’re here for a night of gaming, a Veil concert, or to enjoy some incredible sushi at Su Casa, you’re the reason we keep raising the bar (and the stakes—pun intended). Thanks for being part of the Silverton family!

8. Our Incredible Team

Lastly, but definitely not least, we’re thankful for our amazing team here at Silverton. From our front desk wizards to our culinary geniuses, and everyone in between, this place wouldn’t be what it is without them. They work hard every day to make sure your Silverton experience is nothing short of unforgettable—and we couldn’t be more grateful.

So, from all of us here at Silverton Casino Lodge, we wish you a happy, safe, and delicious Thanksgiving! May your plates be full, your glasses always topped off, and your luck ever in your favor. Oh, and if you see a mermaid, make sure to wave back. She’s thankful for you too.

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!
