Six Facts About Pacifico Beer

Beginning this month, Silverton casino bars now offer Pacifico on draft for only $2.50 a pint, including Flare Bar, Shady Grove Lounge and Mermaid Lounge.

Here are six things you should know about refreshing Pacifico Beer in Las Vegas:

IT’S A CROWD PLEASER

Pacifico is known for its light, crisp taste (with just a hint of bitterness) that’s meant to refresh.  According to a review in Draft Magazine, the beer is a “true crowd-pleaser:”

Pacifico beer is a crisp, clean-tasting, and dry beer. Some even say it is like a light floral with some splash of sea air. It cleanses the palate, and its smooth lightness attacks the tongue with lively carbonation.

YOU CAN SKIP THE LIME… MAYBE

While some popular Mexican beers (like Corona) call for a lime, Pacifico is a bit different.  Says beer site drinkhacker:

Why would anyone drink a Corona when Pacifico is readily available? The reason you put a lime in Corona (and I’m not above drinking one in a pinch) is to mask the faint taste of muskiness. The reason you put a lime in Pacifico is to improve on what’s already just about perfect.  The thing that sets Pacifico apart, really, is the gentle body. The crisp, pale lager reveals a surprising sweetness when you take the first sip. Cut it with a squeeze of lime and you have the perfect blend of sweet and sour.

IT’S OVER 100 YEARS OLD

Pacifico has been around for more than a century.  In fact, it is part of a trio of Mexican beer brands that are over 100 years old – that includes Dos Equis and Sol.

IT WAS BORN IN MEXICO

In 1900, three German brewers established Cervecería del Pacifico in the small Mexican port town of Mazatlán. Word of the exceptionally drinkable pilsner-style lager traveled fast. Soon, thirst for Pacifico spread from Sinaloa and up the rugged Baja coastline.  The original Pacífico brewery, Cervecería del Pacífico, is still seated on the coast of the Pacific Ocean. Each bottle reads: “La Cerveza del Pacífico,” or “The Beer of the Pacific.”

IT MADE ITS WAY TO BAJA

Fast forward to the early 1970s. As the story goes, a group of California surfers ventured south in their van to explore the breaks along the coast. Eventually they found themselves in Baja, where they also discovered hidden surf spots, friendly cantinas, and a beloved local beer called Pacifico.

YOU CAN THANK CALIFORNIA SURFERS

Excited by their find, the wandering surfers loaded up a few cases of the rich golden lager into their van and returned north, becoming the first importers of Pacifico. Back in Southern California, the Baja-born cerveza gained a passionate following among surfers who journeyed south for the breaks and returned with a beer well worth the trip.  In tribute, the brand eventually changed its slogan to “Pacífico Beer, Discovered in Baja, Imported by Surfers.”

Draft Magazine says it best in their review:

Grab a Pacifico beer today if you need a high-quality beer with a refreshingly crisp aroma, flavor, and taste.
