Our very own Mr. Science — Aquarium Curator Ryan Ross — plays a starring role in this summer’s PBS STEAM Camp, in a segment about the science behind the Silverton Aquarium.
The episode premieres Thursday June 9 at 2pm on Vegas PBS. The episode can be viewed online here.
Designed to support the educational needs of children in elementary school, Vegas PBS STEAM Camp brings the fun and discovery associated with camp directly into viewers’ homes. Now in its third season, this Emmy Award-winning series continues to engage audiences through at-home STEAM challenges and science exploration in the Las Vegas community.
Las Vegas is world-renowned for being one of the quickest and quirkiest places for couples to say “I do.” In fact, so many couples have applied for wedding licenses that Clark County recently announced they have issued five million wedding licenses since the county was founded in 1909.
So many couples have tied the knot in Las Vegas, from celebrities to young couples in search of the perfect wedding venue. They’ve walked down the aisle in traditional gowns, vintage jackets, sleek satin dresses, and everything in between. For over half of a century, Las Vegas has been known as the Wedding Capital of the World.
If you’re looking for a unique wedding venue in Sin City, look no further than Silverton Casino.
Sheila Kercher, executive director of marketing at Silverton Casino, recently shared her thoughts on why it’s one of the best wedding venues in the city.
While Las Vegas boasts venues to suit any couple, Silverton Casino offers a truly memorable experience.
“Where else can you say you got married while scuba diving in a giant aquarium in the middle of the desert? The answer is Silverton Casino!’’ said Kercher.
Silverton’s saltwater 117,000-gallon aquarium is one of the most breathtaking places to hold your ceremony, and it’s located only minutes away from the Las Vegas Strip.
Her tips for finding the perfect venue for your Las Vegas wedding include holding the ceremony outdoors and keeping the party going.
“The beautiful desert sky at sunset is absolutely stunning,” she said. “The best part is the party never has to end here. The city and its bars are open all night long!”
Silverton Casino offers an array of dining experiences for your guests, including a steakhouse, sushi, or Mexican cantina. Veil Pavilion — named after a bride’s veil — offers plenty of opportunities for a memorable wedding.

It’s wild to think that in just a short few weeks the children of the Las Vegas valley will be heading back to school. Whether you’re sad to see another summer come to a close, or ready to get back into the routine of a school day schedule, we have a few ways you can make the most of those remaining summer days leading up to that first day back to school.
Send the kids back to a school that they’re guaranteed to love. Saturdays and Sundays 8:30 AM – 10:00 AM children 7-12 years old can enroll in Mermaid School for the opportunity to learn just what it takes to become a Silverton Mermaid!
Your child can learn to swim like a professional mermaid while immersing themselves in our aquarium full of exotic fish during a class taught by one of our very own Silverton Mermaid professionals. They will also be able to enjoy a behind the scenes tour of our award-winning aquarium to complete the full mermaid experience!
Another great way to get into the Back to School, and giving, spirit is by donating to our School Supply Drive that will be running August 1st-10th. Bring any new items including backpacks, pencils, pens, paper, folders, highlighters, glue, crayons, markers, tissues, wipes, or dry erase pens to the Player’s Club and receive $5 off any regular buffet at Seasons Buffet. These donations will be collected to benefit the local Clark County School District students of Dr. Beverly S. Mathis Elementary School.
Another way Silverton Casino loves to help our local students is by volunteering our time with the Goodie Two Shoes Foundation, a local charity that provides simple necessities in a fun and exciting atmosphere to disadvantaged children.
How are you getting ready to head into another school year?
