25th Anniversary Fun Facts

Here’s to 25 Years!

Silverton Casino opened its doors as a lodge themed casino and hotel in 1997 under the ownership of Ed Roski’s Majestic Realty Co.  Over a quarter century, the property has grown and enjoyed many memorable moments along the way.

It has introduced mermaids to the desert, Bass Pro Shops has joined in the fun and there’s more to look forward to in the future as the Silverton Village grows.  In honor of our 25th anniversary, here are a few fun facts about Silverton Casino:

Said the editors in today’s issue of Las Vegas Weekly:

Classic casino diner fare is comfort food for real Las Vegans, and your fave is the Silverton’s homey Sundance Grill, where the prices and flavors hit the mark for a juicy ham steak, a big breakfast burrito or hearty biscuits and gravy. We like to go over the top with peanut butter and bacon pancakes or cinnamon bun French toast.

This morning, we are craving some of Sundance fan favorites, including:

  • THE DEUCES WILD BREAKFAST two buttermilk pancakes, three eggs any style, bacon, sausage links, hash browns

Our Fort Worth Stockyards
Family Has Grown!

Many people aren’t familiar with Silverton Casino’s connection to the Fort Worth Stockyards.

In the heart of Fort Worth, the historic Stockyards has undergone a dramatic revival spurred by several new developments, many which were spearheaded by our sibling companies.   These include:

  • Hotel Drover, Hotel Drover Fort Wortha new luxury hotel and member of the Marriott Autograph Collection, which opened in March 2021.  Since opening, The Drover has been profiled by Condé Nast, Forbes and recognized by Travel + Leisure as one of the Top Hotels in the World.
  • Hyatt Place Fort Worth Stockyards, a hotel with fabulous views of the Stockyards, including the daily Cattle Drives through the historic district.
  • Mule Alley,  a beautifully restored destination of shops, restaurants and entertainment venues in the former Mule Barns of the Stockyards.

And beginning this week, the 115-year-old Stockyards Hotel has a new owner and joins our family of hotel properties.  The hotel was recently purchased by a partnership that includes our sibling company Stockyards Heritage Development Co., owner of the Hotel Drover and the new Mule Alley shops.

Welcome Fort Worth Stockyards Hotel

Stockyards Hotel Fort Worth

Stockyards Hotel, which is on the National Register of Historic Places, adds an exciting historical touch to the district. Known for its rich ancestry, historic architecture and unique character, the Stockyards Hotel offers elegant accommodations in a relaxed atmosphere. Restored to its original grandeur, each of its 42 rooms and 10 suites is unique in its décor, reflecting the cattle baron era of the Old West and the early 19th century.

Cowboys and cattle barons, kings and queens of country music, even an outlaw or two have found refuge and romance at the Stockyards Hotel.   The Bonnie and Clyde junior suite, for instance, is the actual room occupied by the infamous pair during their 1933 stay in Fort Worth.  The hotel’s website boasts a long list of celebrity guests, including Tanya Tucker, Garth Brooks, George Strait, Randy Travis, Vince Gill, Willie Nelson, Pam Tillis and Tim McGraw, just to name a few.

Fort Worth Stockyards is a Texas Vacation Experience

Stockyards Hotel Fort WorthAs a drover headed cattle up the Chisholm Trail to the railheads, he had one last stop for rest and supplies: Fort Worth, Texas.  That was the genesis of the Fort Worth Stockyards. Fort Worth is where the West begins, and nothing embodies Western heritage better than the Fort Worth Stockyards National Historic District. From the original brick walkways to the wooden corrals, every inch of the Stockyards tells the true history of Texas’s famous livestock industry.

True to its history, the Stockyards still hosts the world’s only twice-daily cattle drive. All this – plus more than a hundred  new  shoppingdining and entertainment venues – makes the Fort Worth Stockyards one of Texas’ most popular tourist destinations.

Silverton in the News:
Casino Player Magazine

We are excited to share the recent issue of Casino Player magazine, which included several accolades for Silverton Casino, including Best Casino Awards:

Best Las Vegas Casino Dining Experiences

Mi Casa and WuHu Noodle were named in an article about the magazine’s top ten Las Vegas dining experiences this year.

8. Mi Casa at Silverton
Savor Las Vegas, Nevada’s best Mexican food at Mi Casa Grill Cantina at
Silverton Casino Hotel. Mi Casa serves up delicious Mexican border classics
and signature favorites — everything from spicy fajitas to tamales to ceviche.
Home to one of Vegas’ most extraordinary tequila menus; enjoy it all with
any one of the 65 tequilas served at Mi Casa.

I was very impressed with the authenticity of the interior of the restaurant.
I was more impressed by the food. At the time of our visit and due to other
restaurants being closed, the menu was very diversified.

Our server, Deontae, was very personable and provided us with attentive
service. The food was delicious. I loved Mi Casa’s version of chicken tortilla
soup. I ordered filet mignon and it was cooked to perfection. Dorene chose
Rancho del Sur as her entree. (NY steak, four jumbo grilled peppers,
onions, tabasco onions.) Mi Casa is truly a hidden gem and the prices are
very reasonable. I highly recommend making a visit.

HONORABLE MENTIONS

Top Questions for Brides Planning
Las Vegas Weddings

Q&AWe sat down with Event Sales Manager Rhonda Robinson and asked her to answer the top questions she gets asked by brides-to-be when planning Las Vegas weddings at Silverton.

Q: Do you provide a coordinator/event manager for the day of your wedding?

A: Yes, yours truly will be onsite the day of your special day to ensure your Las Vegas wedding vision is executed to perfection. Moreover, prior to your Las Vegas wedding day we will work closely together covering every detail from menu selection to diagram customization and everything in between.

Q: Can I bring in my own Las Vegas wedding vendors, such as DJ and photographer?

A: Yes, we allow outside vendors for your Las Vegas events at Veil Pavilion for no additional charge. We also work with preferred vendors that will often offer discounts for booking with Silverton Casino, so either way, we have you covered.

Q: Can I bring in my own catering company?

A: While we do not allow any outside food and beverage at our events, we do offer a full wedding catering menu that includes appetizers, plated and buffet meals, and bar packages. We also have the ability to customize if you don’t see your favorite meal or have a special request. In most cases we are happy to work with the bride and groom to create the perfect menu for your event!

Q: How early can I get into the venue for set up?

A: We will provide ample time for set up on the day of your event.

PRO TIP: Account for tasks to take longer than anticipated on your wedding day. Give yourself plenty of time for set up (better yet, enlist family and friends to help with decor or hire professionals), as well as hair and make-up, dressing, etc. There is no need to create extra, unnecessary stress on your big day.

Q: What if we want the reception to go longer than the time allotted in the venue?

A: You have the opportunity to purchase additional hours in the venue, however it is best to pre-purchase the extra time as there is no guarantee on the day of the event that we will be able to accommodate any extra time for the reception. It is best to plan for the party to keep going!

Q: My ceremony is booked off-site, is there a shuttle available to Silverton for my guests?

A: We do not provide shuttle services, however we can recommend local companies that can provide shuttles, limos, a party bus and transportation of that nature.

PRO TIP: Transportation does not have to be provided to and from the locations; however, it is helpful in creating a stress-free day for both the wedding party and your guests if your ceremony and reception are at two different locations.

Beginner Las Vegas Hikes
for the Nature Novice

Just a few miles from the Silverton are some of the most fantastic beginner Las Vegas hikes  — from the desert landscapes of Red Rock Canyon to the refreshing pines of Mt. Charleston.  You don’t have to be an expert hiker to enjoy these beginner Las Vegas hikes.  Here are three of our favorites:

Beginner Las Vegas Hikes at Red Rock Canyon

Red Rock Canyon

The Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area is just a short 25 minute drive from Silverton Casino, a Las Vegas hotel good for hiking.  Within minutes, you’ve left behind all traces of Sin City and are surrounded by gorgeous mountain landscapes, and perfect beginner Las Vegas hikes.

The Scenic Drive, a 13 mile paved road, provides access to explore the many special canyons and sandstone hills in the heart of the canyon. There are 12 different trailheads and free parking areas to begin your next outdoor adventure. A visitor center provides a great introduction to the unique natural and cultural history of this area along with safety and orientation information. This is also one of the best selfie spots in Las Vegas.

Before you head out, make a stop at Bass Pro Shops to pick up your hiking supplies, including a water bottle to stay hydrated.  To plan ahead, here’s a good site with more information.

Note:   Currently, Red Rock Canyon has a timed entry reservation system (through May 31, 2022).  All vehicles entering the Scenic Drive need a free reservation, which is available online.

Beginner Las Vegas Hikes at Mt. Charleston

Mt. Charleston

If you are worried about the high summer temperatures in Las Vegas, Mt. Charleston is your place to cool off while taking a beginner Las Vegas hike.  More than 60 miles of maintained trails wind through the area, most starting at over 6,000ft in elevation and some culminating at the 11,916ft Charleston Peak.  The good news — it’s less than an hour from Silverton Casino, your home base for a Las Vegas hike, and often as much as 30 degrees cooler than the Las Vegas valley below.

Be sure to  avoid dehydration due to the high elevation by packing plenty of water.  (Again, we recommend Bass Pro for supplies)

Note: Hikers should always watch the weather and check for flood, lightning, and avalanche warnings.

Las Vegas Nature Walk at Springs Preserve

Springs Preserve

Las Vegas Springs Preserve consists of 180 acres dedicated to nature walks and displays and is owned and operated by the Las Vegas Valley Water District. The Preserve is located approximately 20 minutes from Silverton Casino and Bass Pro Shops. The Preserve is built around the original water source for Las Vegas, the Las Vegas Springs.

While more “theme park” than “nature trail,” this is a perfect beginner Las Vegas hike.  The Springs Preserve includes colorful desert botanical gardens, museum galleries, outdoor concert and event venues, an indoor theater, historic photo gallery and a series of walking trails that meander through a wetland habitat.

Las Vegas Selfie Spots

To help with your Las Vegas trip plans, here are three of our favorite Las Vegas selfie spots — and a great offer to stay at Silverton.

Las Vegas Selfie Spot #1:  Welcome to Las Vegas Sign

Las Vegas sign selfie

It’s definitely the most famous landmark in Las Vegas — the Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas Sign, which has been in place on the Las Vegas Strip since 1959.  The sign is located just a few miles from Silverton Casino —  in the median at 5100 Las Vegas Boulevard South, north of the historic stone pillars of the old McCarran Field on the east side, and across from the Bali Hai Golf Club.

There are plenty of tips for getting a selfie at the sign.  It gets busy, so be prepared to wait in line.  The most helpful tip is getting there early.  Consider a morning visit, when it is cooler and the crowds of selfie-seekers are at a minimum.

Gateway Arches

BONUS TIP:  Where Traveler Magazine suggests two other Las Vegas landmark signs, both located at the other end of the Las Vegas Strip.  The newest — the Las Vegas Gateway Arches — is located on the north end of the Strip between St. Louis Ave. and Bob Stupak Ave. at the base of The STRAT tower.   The illuminated arches form a gateway to downtown Las Vegas. There are over 13,000 lights on the arches, and the sign changes color (which makes for a great time-lapse video clip).  Just a few blocks away, you will find another never-crowded selfie spot with 26-foot showgirls, dice and poker chips stacked high enough to sit on and the city of Las Vegas logo.

Las Vegas Selfie Spot #2:  Silverton Mermaids

Silverton Mermaids Las Vegas

It may be a desert out there — but it’s not a visit to Las Vegas without taking a trip to see the famed Silverton Mermaids.  Legend has it that spotting a mermaid will bring you luck for the rest of the day.  Located just a few miles from the Las Vegas Strip, Silverton Casino is home to a 117,000 gallon aquarium, where mermaids make appearances Thursday through Sunday (schedule online).

BONUS TIP:  If you miss the mermaids, stop by at 1:30 and 4:30pm for an equally interesting stingray feeding.  Wait for one of the bigger rays to press its face on the glass for the perfect selfie backdrop!

Las Vegas Selfie Spot #3:  The Arts District

Las Vegas Arts District

About a mile from Downtown Las Vegas, the Historic Arts District is vivid, eclectic, and ever-growing thanks to the city’s remarkably creative locals. Beautifully decorated with vibrant murals around every corner, this cool spot is a must-see for tourists who enjoy the quirky and artistic side of life.  If you love street art, visit on every trip—many murals are created for the Life is Beautiful festival and change yearly, according to Where Traveler.

Life is Beautiful street art

BONUS TIP:  If you visit in September, the Life is Beautiful music festival puts street art front and center.  You’ll literally find dozens of dynamic murals and art installations throughout Downtown Las Vegas.   It’s selfie nirvana.
