Myths and Misconceptions of Las Vegas

There are a lot of misconceptions that come along with a town the bears the nickname Sin City. So we’re here to put to some of the myths to rest.

Myth: You have to be 21+ to enjoy yourself in Las Vegas.

Truth: While you must be 21+ to drink and gamble, having a good time in Las Vegas has no age limit. There are plenty of things to do, even for families. At Silverton Casino we have mermaid shows, stingray feedings, a pool to enjoy the sunshine, and an ever growing list of all ages shows at Veil Pavilion just to name a few.

Myth: Everyone lives in casinos.

Truth: Absolutely not. Unless you’re a Vegas headliner, you probably live in one of the many wonderful communities that Southern Nevada has to offer. In fact, there are some amazing parks, hiking trails and recreational centers throughout these communities that are worth a visit themselves.

Myth: What happens here, stays here.

Truth: Two words: Social media. What happens here will more than likely end up on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, SnapChat, or a cocktail of a little of each.  Much like the rest of the world, Las Vegas is not immune to the windows of the Internet peeping in on all the fun being had.

Myth:  Everything worth seeing is on The Strip.

Truth: Any Las Vegas local would strongly disagree with this statement. There are plenty of fun things to do and see all over the Las Vegas valley that doesn’t require a Las Vegas Boulevard address. For example, Downtown Las Vegas has the exciting Fremont Street Experience and the Las Vegas Arts District that are always worth a visit.  Venture away from the hype of The Strip and visit local casinos to get a real taste of Las Vegas.

Summer Celebrations at Silverton

There is quite the party going on at Silverton this summer as we celebrate another hot season where there is always something to celebrate no matter how you choose to keep cool or heat things up.

Speaking of hot, everyone is hitting the streets in attempts to catch ‘em all with Pokemon Go.  Mermaid Lounge, a prime Poke Stop location right next to the aquarium, is a great place for trainers to fuel up with drink specials and pokeballs.  Who isn’t in for $2 Pokedraft?   In fact, there are five Poke Stops alone at Silverton Casino, not to mention two gyms for you to battle it out and claim for Mystic, Instinct or Valor.

All throughout the month of July we are celebrating our 19th anniversary and we want you to join us for all the fun! Check us out on Instagram at @silvertoncasino where we are turning the tables and giving the gifts to you every week in July, from dining credits for our various wonderful restaurants to concert tickets to the latest performers taking the stage at Veil Pavilion!

July also has us celebrating the newest addition to our growing neighborhood, Cracker Barrel! Your Cracker Barrel receipt not only shows you and your friends have just enjoyed a delightful southern style meal and were possibly humiliated by a peg game, but awards you free slot play at our Player’s Club.  Delicious has its perks! Also, don’t miss out on your opportunity to take home a shirt welcoming Cracker Barrel to Nevada!

There is something always happening at Sway, from surprise mermaid meet and greets or their something for everyone drink specials being offered to chase away any hint of summertime sadness. Life is better under a cabana when you sip n’ Sway, so what are you waiting for?

What You Need to Know About Cracker Barrel

Its official, the fan favorite of down-home fixin’s, Cracker Barrel is joining the Neighborhood! Las Vegas locals rejoice that they will no longer have to take a drive to Arizona or Utah to satisfy their buttermilk biscuit cravings! So pull up a rocker and get to know just a little bit more about Cracker Barrel outside of your favorite menu picks!

Locations, locations, locations! Cracker Barrel has over 630 stores throughout the United States, and the latest is not only the first in Las Vegas, but the first in Nevada opening alongside the Silverton Casino and Bass Pro Shops, Monday, July 25, 2016.  In fact, many are conveniently located close to major highway exits because they used to sell gas as well, since the founder was also working for his grandfather’s gasoline business back in the ‘60s.

All of the memorabilia that decorates the walls, and every other inch of the restaurant, are authentic vintage items. No reproductions are allowed, creating a genuine atmosphere that tips a hat to local history and nostalgia at its finest. In fact, the founder’s son is in charge of finding all the unique artifacts for new locations, and runs his own “Decor Warehouse” filled with over 90,000 artifacts in Tennessee.

In 2013, Cracker Barrel made its way to supermarket shelves so that everyone may prepare some of the traditional country style classics from the comfort of their own kitchen. Yet you may notice that the products have an alternate label that reads “CB Old Country Store” instead of Cracker Barrel. That would be due to an agreement with Kraft as not to confuse consumers with the Cracker Barrel branded cheese products produced by Kraft.

Who hasn’t been made to feel like an “eg-no-ra-moose” by the notorious peg solitaire game that dawns every table? The same company, Qualls and Sons Novelties, has been making the game for the stores since the very beginning. Also, here’s a little helping hand to help impress your friends when you visit.

Welcome to the Neighborhood Cracker Barrel!

Celebrating America All Month Long

As we enter July many red, white and blue-blooded Americans gather to celebrate the freedom of this great country. But why limit that to only one day out of the year? We think that celebration and especially the fun of the peak of summer should last all month long, and here are a few ways to do just that.

Grab a few friends to create your dream team and show your spirit at Silverton’s Beer Olympics! Every Thursday in July teams gather to take on one beer challenge, one agility challenge, and one trivia challenge that will vary week to week. Bonus points for the most creative team name and team uniform voted by the crowd!

Head out to Fremont Street for free concerts underneath the 1,500 foot long Viva Vision video screen. Their Rock of Vegas free summer concert series last all the way up until Labor Day Weekend. July’s lineup features Cherry Poppin’ Daddies and Robby Krieger of the Doors.

Head to Veil Pavilion to enjoy Best Of My Love, the Eagles tribute band, as they take the stage on Saturday, July 9th at 7:00 p.m. Belt out Hotel California, Desperado and Take It Easy with the best of them to keep the holiday week rolling into the rest of the month.  Also, later in the month Blood Sweat & Tears featuring Bo Bice takes the stage on Saturday, July 30 at 7p.m.

Fireworks, fireworks, fireworks! They’re right up there with baseball and apple pie when you think patriotism. It wouldn’t be July in Las Vegas without scorching temperatures and even hotter firework displays! Different locations throughout the valley are hosting their displays all through the month because there is always something to celebrate in the city that never sleeps.  Don’t want to wait for a show? Seek out local fireworks stand and have a celebration of your own!

Silverton Casino is also celebrating their anniversary all July long! Stay tuned to social for some fun giveaways and offers to help us celebrate another wonderful year!
